Why did I get a truancy phone call for my student when they arrived to school late?
Anytime a student arrives after 9:00 am it is considered an absence. If we don’t hear from a parent, the student will be considered truant and a call/email will be sent home. If a parent/guardian calls in excusing the truancy, the absence code will be updated.
Which school calendar should be followed? The home school calendar or the Penta Career Center calendar?
Students are required to attend school whenever Penta is in session, view our calendar
here. The only time a student is excused from Penta due to a home school closing is for weather related delays/closings when safety is a factor.
How does my student get to Penta if their member school has a pre-planned delay or closure?
Member schools are required to provide bussing unless arriving safely is a factor (weather related). Check with your member school’s transportation department for their policy on pre-planned delay/closure days.
How many absences does my student get with a parent excuse?
Students get 6 parent absences per semester that have been verified by the SafeArrival app, a parent call, email, or note upon returning.
My student is or will be 18 during the current school year. Do I still have to call them off or can they do it themselves?
Parents/guardians are still required to call their student off. If the student attempts to call off or sign out early without this permission, we are required to call and notify the parent/guardian on file. If you wish to allow your student to take care of this without the attendance office notifying you, please call or email the Student Affairs Office.
What is Professional Period?
On Mondays and Fridays, students are able to leave school at 2:16 if they are eligible. In order to be eligible, your student cannot have any truancies in the prior week, they must hold a 73% or higher in each of their classes, and cannot have received any discipline in the prior week. Every student must have their student ID and be able to scan out for Professional Period. They will not be permitted to leave without their ID.
