There are scholarships of all different kinds available to students. Here, we will provide information on a number of local scholarships. If you are interested in searching for scholarships on a larger scale, consider using websites such as Big Future by the College Board, Cappex,, or Fastweb. There are a large number of additional scholarship search websites. It is also a good idea to look for scholarships directly on the website of the college or university you plan to attend. As a general rule, you should never pay to apply for a scholarship.

Penta Career Center Common Scholarship Application
Deadline: April 12, 2024

The Penta Common Scholarship Application allows for students to apply for multiple scholarships on one application. There are some scholarships that all students are eligible for, and others that have specific criteria that must be applicable for students to qualify. Scholarships are available for students who are planning to pursue further education at a college or university, as well as students who are entering the workforce and are in need of tools, equipment, and other items to begin their career.

The Hirzel Award of Excellence
Deadline: April 12, 2024

The Hirzel Excellence Award is given in honor of Karl A. & Rosalie Hirzel. This scholarship can be used for postsecondary education or for resources needed to get started in a career, and is available only to graduating Penta Career Center seniors.


Friends of Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge Blue Goose Scholarship
Deadline: February 15, 2024

Scholarship Information
Two $2,500 scholarships will be awarded to graduating high school seniors who:
1. Plan to pursue a degree in environmental science, natural resources, or conservation related field at an accredited college or university.
2. Reside in Ottawa County or Lucas County, Ohio.
3. Achieved at least a 3.0 grade point average in high school.

Scholarships may be used for tuition, fees, books, personal protective equipment, tools, instruments, field equipment, etc.

How to Apply
  • Fill out the application (linked here)and mail it along with the following items:
    • Official school transcripts
    • 500 word essay describing why you chose a path in conservation and what your goals are for the future.
    • 2 letters of recommendation from a teacher, community service leader, or coach.

Intel Scholarship for Women in Technology
Deadline: February 19, 2024

Intel Corp. is offering up to 25 $5,000 scholarships to women who plan to enroll in a two-year associate degree or one-year semiconductor certificate program in the state of Ohio. 


Bates Recycling Scholarship
Deadline: March 15, 2024

Bates Recycling in Cygnet, Ohio is offering a one-time, $500 scholarship to a Penta Career Center senior who meets the following criteria:
-Be a born U.S. citizen
-Be enrolled as a senior at Penta Career, Bowling Green, Ohio
-Completed and submitted application materials by postmarked deadline date.
-Maintain a minimum 2.75 GPA.


Directions Credit Union Scholarship
Deadline: March 16, 2024

Directions annually awards $1,000 scholarships to students with a passion for helping others.

Twelve, one-time $1,000 scholarships. The scholarship will be paid jointly to the student and school they attend and applied to their school tuition.

Wood County Township Association Scholarship
Deadline: April 5, 2024

Two $1,000 scholarships are available to students whose parents live in a Wood County Township OR in a village/city that vote on township officers and issues.

Selection Criteria:
Applicant must be a high school senior eligible for graduation and a resident of Wood County.
Applicant must be planning to attend an accredited college or university to complete a two or four year program.
Applicant must have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale.

Requirements (all of the following):
Complete the application available at the link below.
A 350 – 500 word essay, explained further on application.
Official high school transcript.
Two letters of recommendation from non-family members.

If already accepted to an accredited college or university, attach a copy of the letter of acceptance or other documentation.

It is recommended that applicant attend a local township meeting.

Application Deadline:  Must be received by Friday, April 5, 2024.

Fremont Federal Credit Union Scholarship
Deadline: April 1, 2024, 12 p.m.

Offering several $2000 scholarships and a Trade Mastery Scholarship to local High School Seniors. The Trade Mastery Scholarship is designed to provide financial assistance to individuals pursuing skilled trades by offering tools and supplies that support their needs to further their skilled trade in their chosen work field.

Northwest Ohio American Public Works Association Scholarships
Deadline: April 26, 2024

The Northwest Ohio American Public Works Association is offering four scholarship opportunities to students:

(2) Public Works Scholarships: Available to students pursuing any Engineering Core, Administrative, Vehicle or Fleet Maintenance, or Environmental majors.
(1) Bennett J. Rossner Scholarship: Available to any student taking small engine, automotive (including ACE certifications), or lawn maintenance coursework
(1) Abco Family Scholarship: Available to an APWA family member pursuing any major


Owens Tech Prep Scholarship

The Tech Prep Scholarship is available for fall and spring, for up to four consecutive semesters. The maximum award is $500 per semester towards instructional and general fees, and an allowance for books, that are not paid by other financial aid, such as the Federal Pell Grant. 

  • You must meet the following criteria to be considered for the scholarship. 
  • Achieve a minimum 2.5 GPA by the end of your 7th high school semester. 
  • Enroll at Owens Community College for the fall semester immediately following high school graduation. 
  • Maintain full-time enrollment (12 or more credit hours) in fall and spring semesters with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better. Continuous full-time enrollment in fall and spring semesters is required in order to continue receiving the scholarship. 
  • Declare an associate degree program which is related to your high school Tech Prep career pathway. 
  • Indicate the intent to obtain a certificate, or to obtain an associate degree for transfer to another college or for the job market. Submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for each academic year. 
  • Complete the verification process if the your FAFSA application is selected for verification.


Owens Board of Trustees Scholarship

The Board of Trustees Scholarship is $1,000 per semester for up to four consecutive semesters. The scholarship begins in fall semester; summer enrollment is optional. All awards are based upon available funding.

Students who will be enrolling at Owens in the fall semester immediately after graduating from a high school in the Owens legal district, and who have a high school GPA of 3.7 or above, must submit official high school transcripts on or after May 15 at the conclusion of  their junior year to be considered.

In addition, students who meet one of the following qualifications may apply for the scholarship by submitting the Board of Trustees Scholarship — Nomination Form. The due date for nomination forms is July 15.

A high school senior attending a high school located in the Owens legal district, who has a high school GPA of 3.0 – 3.69, demonstrates student motivation, and enrolls in the fall semester immediately following high school graduation.  

All recipients must meet the following criteria:

Apply for admission to Owens as a regular student
Pursue a degree or certificate with the intent to complete at Owens Community College
Maintain full-time enrollment at a minimum of twelve credit hours each semester
Maintain a 3.0 cumulative grade point average to continue eligibility for each semester at Owens, for a maximum of four total consecutive semesters (summer optional)


SME Education Foundation Scholarship

For more than 40 years, the SME Education Foundation has been a leader in supporting the next generation of manufacturing and engineering talent. This scholarship program awards millions of dollars to hundreds of graduating high school seniors and current college students pursuing an associate or bachelor’s degree in manufacturing, engineering or related discipline.
