Penta Career Center is proud to announce that it is the recipient of a Pacesetter School Award from the Southern Regional Education Board (SREB). Teachers and administrators were on hand in July to accept the award during SREB’s Annual High Schools That Work (HSTW) Staff Development Conference in Orlando, Florida. “We are very honored to receive this award from the SREB,” says Ronald Matter, superintendent of Penta Career Center. “Over the years, our staff has worked collaboratively to transform our professional development opportunities. We feel this approach has led to staff ownership of their professional development and an increase in students’ ownership of their learning.”

Registration is under way for full and part-time programs at Penta Career Center, Adult & Continuing Education. Full-time programs begin August 20 and include: Automotive Body Repair; Automotive Mechanic Technician; Builder, Contractor and Remodeler Technology; Heating, Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Mechanic Repair; and Welding. Penta’s part-time courses have flexible starting dates and include programs like Plumbing Apprenticeship and Forklift Training.

The Adult Education instructors select exemplary students twice year from each program to be recognized as a Leader in Action. Students are selected based on strong work ethic, character/attitude, attendance, a willingness to work as a team member, and a standard of excellence in course work. The framed student awards were presented by their academic advisor Chad Greely, at the Student Achievement Night celebration.
