Student-Built House Open Sunday, May 21, 1 p.m. - 3 p.m.      During this past school year, Penta Career Center high school students have been constructing a 2,300 square foot house as part of their career training. The house is being constructed for the Hatcher family and is located at 5829 Dowling Rd in Luckey, Ohio (about 3 miles South of State Route 20). The house will be open to the public on Sunday, May 21, 2017 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
“Each year, our students construct a house as part of their senior class project,” says Jon Rife, supervisor of the construction trades programs at Penta Career Center. “Students in our construction trades programs build houses to gain valuable hands-on experience in residential home construction.”
The house is a ranch style and has three bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, two-car garage, and a basement. Special features include: a vaulted ceiling and fireplace in the great room; a large kitchen with a tile floor; and a full brick front.
Students in Construction Carpentry, Remodeling, Masonry, Electricity, Construction Trades, and Heating & Air Conditioning Technology programs worked on some aspect of the home construction project. Penta instructors Rob Weaver, Jason Vida, Pat Luther, Rob Haas, Jeff Miller, and Bruce Robinson worked with the students throughout the school year to complete the house.
The home building project is part of the high school curriculum in the Construction
programs at Penta. For more information about applying for a Penta-built home, contact Jon Rife at 419-666-1120 Ext. 6358. Potential home building projects must be located within a 10 to 15 minute driving distance of the Penta campus. In addition, a potential project must be located within one of Penta’s member school districts.
