Penta Career Center held its annual Scholarship Dinner & Silent Auction on Thursday, December 7, 2017 in the Commons at Penta.  This year's theme was "It’s VEGAS!”  The event raised over $28,000 for the following scholarships for Penta students:  Culinary Scholarship, Hirzel Family Scholarship and Penta’s General Scholarship Fund.  About 318 guests attended the event.  Silent auction items included a Las Vegas hotel stay, restaurant gift cards, a handmade quilt, holiday decorations, jewelry, event tickets, and more.
One of the stand-out auction items was a diamond ring (valued at $1,500), donated by David Cameron, of Broer-Freeman Jewelers.  The dinner was also a highlight! Students from Penta’s three Culinary Arts labs prepared gourmet food stations of delectable drinks, appetizers, entrees, and desserts. Some of the food items included: a raw bar, ahi tuna tacos, smoked salmon, BBQ ribs, beef wellington, a risotto bar, a bacon station, and a cheesecake station. Penta instructional chefs, Janea Makowski, Sarah Sadlier and, Jim Rhegness, and Ken Ray were on hand to guide the students. Instructional aides, Austin Halterman and Tricia Winter also assisted.
