This program prepares you to become a medical assistant and perform patient clinical skills in the medical office setting. You will perform clinical procedures including administering medications, assisting with minor surgery, performing an electrocardiogram, obtaining laboratory specimens for testing, educating patients, and maintaining clinical equipment in an ambulatory care setting.
Medical assistants perform routine clinical tasks to keep the offices of physicians, podiatrists, chiropractors, and optometrists running smoothly.
This program will provide you with the necessary training and skills required to challenge the National Heathcareer Association (NHA) Certified Medical Assistant (CCMA) national examination. This program requires 140 classroom hours (lecture and labs) and a clinical externship. You must successfully complete the 140 classroom requirement to be eligible to participate in the clinical externship rotation.
Upon successful completion of the Clinical Medical Assisstant program you will have the skills necessary to gain employment in a number of capacities. Job opportunities will be prevalent in physician's offices, clinics, chiropractor's offices, and outpatient facilities. The occupational outlook handbook states that employment of medical assistants is expected to grow 35% from 2011 to 2016, much faster than the average.
