Students Earn Top Awards at Regional SkillsUSA Competition

Congratulations to 13 Penta Career Center students who earned top awards at the SkillsUSA Regional Competition in Tiffin on February 14, 2014.  All award winners will advance to the Ohio SkillsUSA Championships in Columbus, Ohio on April 15 & 16, 2014.  First Place (gold medal) winners included: Jared Coker (Genoa), Welding, for the Welding contest and Charles McCaw (Swanton), Advanced Manufacturing Technologies, for the Precision Machining contest.

Seven students earned second place and silver medals, these students included: Derrick Perry (Perrysburg), Automotive Collision Repair, for the Automotive Refinishing contest; Matt Glenn (Genoa), Construction Carpentry, for the Carpentry contest; Colby Roseman (Otsego), Automotive Collision Repair, for the Collision Repair contest; Eric Kurtz (Oak Harbor), Construction Masonry, for the Technical Math contest; and Brad Corbin (Elmwood), Construction Electricity, Mark Rumsey (Springfield), Construction Masonry, and Jared Berger (Lake), Construction Carpentry, all for the Team Works contest.

Third Place and bronze medals were awarded to the following four Penta students: Jakob Brand (Swanton), Computer Aided Design, for the Architectural Drafting contest; Cassandra Kaptur (Anthony Wayne), Construction Carpentry, for the Carpentry contest; William Bennett (Oak Harbor), Computer Hardware Networking, for the Extemporaneous Speaking contest; and Maegan Anders (Springfield), Digital Video Production, for the Photography contest.

SkillsUSA is a national organization for high school students who are training for careers in trade, industrial, technical, and health-related occupations. The organization provides quality educational experiences such as leadership, teamwork, citizenship, and character development skills.
