Designing excellence in Auto Body

Designing excellence in Auto Body

Less than three months into the school year, Penta’s full-time adult Automotive Body Repair students are gaining a reputation for professional quality workmanship and community outreach. Students recently completed an extensive project requiring them to each repair and paint a damaged car hood (many of the dents and scrapes were inflicted by the students themselves to make the project even more challenging). Students painted their hoods with custom designs of their own creation. After hours of hammering, sanding, painting, and buffing the students were able to proudly show off their stellar work (see photos below).

The program has also been active in reaching out to the community, having recently repaired and repainted a truck hood for Lieutenant Raymond Kozina of the Maumee Fire Division. Lieutenant Kozina showed his appreciation with a glowing review of the program:

“A sincere THANK YOU to the students and staff of the Penta Auto Body Program for the excellent job refinishing the hood on my vehicle. It is nice to provide you with a vehicle you can practice your craft on to gain experience needed to have a competitive job in the auto body repair field. Thank you again for a job well done!”

Full-time Auto Body instructor Chris Mulinix has done an excellent job engaging the students by providing quality classroom instruction and real-world work experience in Penta’s state of the lab. Mr. Mulinix has spearheaded many of the program’s outreach efforts by providing free auto body repair services the community.

Students in the Automotive Body Repair program acquire many skills and hands-on experience, including welding, panel repair, painting, as well as exterior and interior trim repair. Students also prepare to take the ASE Refrigeration and Painting/Refinishing Certification Test offered in the spring. The program is ten months in duration, beginning in August.
