2016 STEM Summer Camp a Great Success!

2016 STEM Summer Camp a Great Success!

Over 100 students in grades 7 to 9 participated in Penta Career Center's annual STEM Summer Camp this past week.  The campers explored areas such as: Basic Game Design, Construction Carpentry, Culinary Arts, Manufacturing Technologies, and Residential Mechanical Systems. The campers participated in a different program each day which was designed to increase their understanding of how Science, Technology, Engineering and Math skills are used in a variety of career fields.
Some of the hands-on activities included: calculating volume and using theories to build table top hydraulic cranes in the Construction Carpentry program; discovering how yeast reacts and grows using microscopes, applications and taste in Culinary Arts; programming circuit boards and testing boomerangs, Motoman robots and Fanuc robots in the Manufacturing Technologies program; researching water applications and comparing it to electricity in the Residential Mechanical System program; and programming and playtesting on laptops in the Basic Game Design program.
Special thanks to Penta instructors, student counselors and staff who helped make the week fun and educational for the campers.
