2014 FCCLA National Qualifiers

2014 FCCLA National Qualifiers

   Students from Penta Career Center and several of its satellite programs recently earned top awards at the Ohio Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) Convention in Columbus, Ohio. Each student winner received a medal and certificate for their accomplishments. As a result of earning top awards in Columbus, 39 students qualify for the 2014 FCCLA National Leadership Conference July 6-10 in San Antonio, Texas. These students include the following.
   Early Childhood Education students and gold medal winners: Colleen Kaylor (Perrysburg), Teach and Train contest; Courtney Blevins (Springfield), Leadership contest; Hortencia Perez (Bowling Green), Promote and Publicize contest; Elisa Reyes (Eastwood), Chelsea Elam (Lake) and Rebecca Robinson (Maumee), Illustrated Talk contest; Virginia Clark (Maumee) and Holly Wagner (Anthony Wayne), Interpersonal Communications contest; and Kelly Baranowski (Springfield), Hannah Garcia (Springfield) and Molly Matthews (Genoa), National Programs in Action contest. Culinary Arts students and gold medal winners: Nicole Lambert (Bowling Green), Brandi Alderman (Otsego) and Alexis Bailey (Maumee), Entrepreneurship contest.
   Students in Penta’s Teaching Professions program at Anthony Wayne High School also earned gold awards at the state FCCLA competition and qualify for the 2014 FCCLA National Leadership Conference. They include: Nathan Dick, Elizabeth Kelso and Samantha Tasler, Environmental Ambassador contest; and Kylie Little and Katilyn Kurek, Advocacy contest. In addition, Samantha Neiswander, a Teaching Professions student from Perrysburg High School, earned gold in the Nutrition and Wellness contest and also qualifies for the national conference.
   Kadence Crum and Anna Dedes, students in Penta’s Family and Consumer Science programs at Oak Harbor Junior High, earned gold awards at the state FCCLA contest and qualify for the national conference for the Chapter Service Display contest. In addition, Annabella Voska, from Penta’s Family and Consumer Science program at Otsego Junior High, earned a gold award in the Nutrition and Wellness contest and qualifies for the national conference.
   Sixteen students in Penta’s Family and Consumer Science programs at either Anthony Wayne High School or the Junior High, earned either silver or gold awards and qualify for the national conference. They include: Brissa Bradfield, Hospitality, Tourism and Recreation contest (silver); Lily Kwiatkowski, Sports Nutrition contest (gold); Madison Bell, Sports Nutrition contest (gold); Kelsey Keyser, Entrepreneurship contest (silver); Madison Pant, Entrepreneurship contest (silver); Kendall Bialecki, Advocacy contest (gold); Sarah Pohlman-Beshuk, Career Investigation contest (gold); Jacob Lyons, Food Innovations contest (gold); Alison Ruf, Life Event Planning contest (gold); Johnathan Yunker, Entrepreneurship contest (gold); Audrey Voogd, Recycle and Redesign contest (silver); Morgan Bowers, Sports Nutrition contest (gold); and Sanjay Jinka and Justyn Bobinski (both gold) for the Environmental Ambassador contest.  In addition, Deniz Ilgin and Mustafa Ilgin competed in an FCCLA online project for the No Kid Hungry National Outreach Project and qualify for the national conference.
   Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) is a dynamic national student organization that helps young men and women become leaders and address important personal, family, work, and societal issues through Family and Consumer Sciences education. FCCLA has over 200,000 members and over 6,500 chapters from 50 state associations, including Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. The organization has involved more than ten million youth since founded in 1945.
