Students Earn Top Awards at FCCLA National Conference

Students Earn Top Awards at FCCLA National Conference

Dozens of students from Penta’s Early Childhood Education, Teaching Professions, Culinary Arts, and Family and Consumer Sciences programs competed at the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) National Leadership Conference held July 6-10, 2014 in San Antonio, Texas. Thirty students earned either gold or silver medals in various competitions.

Gold Awards
Samantha Neiswander from the Penta/Perrysburg Teaching Professions program earned gold for Nutrition and Wellness. The following Penta/Anthony Wayne students earned gold awards: Brissa Bradfield and Ryan Fischer, for Hospitality, Tourism and Recreation; Lily Kwiatkowski and Morgan Bowers, for Sports Nutrition; Kendall Bialecki for Advocacy; Sanjay Jinka and Justyn Bobinski, for Environmental Ambassador; Sarah Pohlman-Beshuk for Career Investigation; Alison Ruf for Life Event Planning; and Johnathan Yunker for Entrepreneurship. The following Early Childhood Education students earned gold awards: Elisa Reyes (Eastwood) and Rebecca Robinson (Maumee), both for Illustrated Talk; Holly Wagner (Anthony Wayne) for Interpersonal Communications; Hortencia Perez (Bowling Green) for Promote and Publicize FCCLA; and Colleen Kaylor (Perrysburg) for Teach and Train. Also earning gold medals for the Entrepreneurship contest from Penta’s Culinary Arts program were Nicole Lambert (Bowling Green) and Alexis Bailey (Maumee).

Silver Awards
Penta/Anthony Wayne students earning silver medals included: Madison Bell for Sports Nutrition; Kelsey Keyser and Madison Pant, for Entrepreneurship; Jacob Lyons for Food Innovations; Audrey Voogd for Recycle and Redesign; Deniz Ilgin and Mustafa Ilgin, for No Kid Hungry Online project; and Kylie Little and Kaitlyn Kurek, for the Advocacy project.

Other silver medal winners included: Annabella Voska (Otsego Junior High) for Nutrition and Wellness; and Kadence Crum and Anna Dedes (both from Oak Harbor Junior High) for the Chapter Service Display contest.

FCCLA is a dynamic and effective student organization that helps young men and women become leaders and address important personal, family, work, and societal issues through Family and Consumer Sciences education.
