SPECIAL INTEREST

Adult Basic Skills Enhancement & GED Preparation

Penta’s Basic Skills program is a student-centered learning opportunity for adults who want to continue to improve their learning and earning opportunities.

Why enroll in Basic Skills? To improve reading, writing, and math skills, to get and/or to keep a job, to meet entrance requirements for your skill training courses or college, to study for your GED, or to help your children with their homework.           

Pre-Registration Required – Call 419.661.6555 to register. 

All Basic Skills classes are offered free of charge!  Students must be at least
19 years of age. 

Legal requirements for minors (16 & 17 year olds) to enroll in Basic Skills classes are different from the requirements to take the actual GED exam. Please call 419.661.6555, for information relating to laws for minors attending Basic Skills classes or alternative high school programs.

Basic Skills classes are available to businesses and companies under the Corporate Services Group Program on page 36.

GED TESTING

The GED application fee for all first-time test takers will be $40.  Re-testers will be charged
$10 per subject test being retaken, up to a maximum of $40

Please call Lucas County Educational Service Center at 419.245.3809 to register.  Lucas County Educational Service Center has several testing sites within the region, including a testing site several times a year at Penta.

The test is given over two days and includes the following components: Math, Science, Reading, Writing and Social Studies.

GED TESTING Requirements
 

  • Student must register in advance and meet age requirements if under 19 years of age.
     
  • Student must bring Drivers License, State Issued ID or Passport with photo and have
    Social Security number shown on ID or bring Social Security card.
     
  • Student must arrive a minimum of 20 minutes early to sign in.
     
  • Student transportation must arrive for pick up 1/2 hour before the scheduled end time.

An applicant who is at least sixteen years of age, but is less than eighteen years of age, is
eligible to take the GED test with written approval from a parent, guardian or court official1 and
the school superintendent from where the applicant last attended school or presently resides.2

For registration, information or questions about the GED exam, contact Penta Adult Education during office hours.  Our office staff is available year-round from 8:30 am – 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday, except holidays.
